Golf

Dubai is becoming one of the world’s premier golfing destinations with excellent weather and top class facilities. There are already quite a few international standard golf courses around the City, with plenty more at the planning stage. In a place where it hardly ever rains, the golf courses are a welcome splash of colour in the desert. The desert course at Arabian Ranches is one Dubai’s newest courses, designed with input from golfing great Jack Nicklaus. The Al Badia Golf Course, situated within Dubai Festival City, on the banks of the Creek, opened recently. In January 2005, the ever-popular Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club course re-opened after extensive redevelopment.

Each year, the City is host to prestigious Dubai desert classic golfing tournament, which is part of the European PGA Tour. Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomerie and Seve Ballesteros are just some of the golfing heroes who have teed off in this tournament, which is played at the Emirates Golf Club.

There are also several local monthly tournaments and annual competitions that are open to all, such as the Emirates Mixed Amateur Open, the Emirates Ladies’ Amateur Open (handicap of 21 or less), and the Emirates Men’s Amateur Open (handicap of five or less).

Dubai Golf operates a central reservation system for those wishing to book a round of golf on any of the major courses in the emirate.
